According to the National Head Lice Support Center, the number of primary school children with head lice has doubled in the past 15 years despite vigilant checks by schools and parents. In the survey conducted, the number of children with head lice has doubled in the past 15 years. The survey shows 25.5 percent of parents say their children have head lice in the past 12 months as compared to 11 percent of children with head lice in 1993.
What does it mean? My theory is that the increase has to do with heightened awareness on the part of parents and schools, and also new generations of lice that are becoming ever more resistant to pesticides.
Keep up the good work, parents, teachers, and schools, and remember: Pesticides are not necessary to rid yourselves of infestation, especially prescription ones. But if you do decide to use them, always read and follow the directions carefully and exactly.
